To Autumn
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells.
John Keats

Drumtochty Forest , near Clatterin Brig, Aberdeenshire • All these photos were taken in the last two years. I don't know if we'll get such glorious colour this year after all the high winds. |
Hope your winds aren't too strong or destructive. The photos are lovely.

Lovely lovely pics - out and about yesterday and despite high winds the trees were still hanging on to their leaves.
ReplyDeleteI thought the wind wasn't too bad (windy days in Orkney are always the standard) maybe it lost it's oomph or bypassed us completely.
ReplyDeleteThe trees here are looking a bit the worse for wear and the we've got boxes of apples almost overnight.
These are gorgeous. In Texas we get two colors - green and brown! lol The second photo of the leaves is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos, Janet! I love the first and fourth ones especially. I've never figured out how to capture sunlight like that on camera, without it either looking overblown or having the shaded areas too dark. Beautifully done!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are so evocative you can almost smell autumn. Beautiful!
ReplyDeletePeaceful photos. I love the streaming light in the first.
ReplyDeleteThere is something good about being able to accept the turn of the season. I have been working on that this week, now that I have a bouquet of golden rod on my sill and a bushel of tomatoes to roast.
Thanks for sharing your musings.

Lovely photos Janet, particularly the first and fourth. I hope you get the chance to take similar shots this year, though as you say, the wind is ripping the leaves from the trees before they have a chance to turn.
ReplyDeleteGlorious photos and colors, colors which we don't see in these parts of the world. It's timely again to see them in blogs.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your autumn reflections. Autumn just seems to have such quiet and reflective qualities....after the busy-ness of summer.
ReplyDeleteJanet this is such a beautiful post! The Keats poem is stunning.

I have to admit that the first photo that has been greatly admired was not taken by me. It's one of a series taken by P. He was chuffed that people have commented on it. The others are all my own work!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments.
Those are stunning photos, Janet - thank you and P both for sharing them!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you didn't have too much wind damage - and I hope your trees have some leaves left for autumn colour! They are just starting to turn here.
Really beautiful photos Janet, hope you get the same stunning colours this year.
ReplyDeleteI have autumn envy already!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI get it every year and have to make a trip 'sooth' to get my fix, otherwise, I'm even more cranky than normal.......beautiful pictures........
Thanks!
