What the discerning lady gardener is wearing...

For those opening their gardens on Sunday and are in a quandray over what outfit to choose, can I suggest that you take inspiration from the following?

Valerie Finnis

Beatrix Havergal

Lady Birchfield

Vita Sackville West

  1. Lots of inspiration there. I'd go for the Vita Sackville West look myself.

  3. I haven't got the figure for the Beatrix Havergal outfit (yet)so I may opt for the Vits'a stylish jodpurs and I might even smile.....

  4. Lady Birley would do you nicely I'd say!! An arty/creative lady - after just watching you on (recorded) Beechgrove with Breakfast this morning I'd say that pretty much covers you ;-)

A glorious morning here - hope its the same for your garden opening. Mm... just back from hols last night but I wonder if anyone here fancies a trip up to Montrose... is it too early to wake them up and ask?

  5. Oh, to garden in such wonderful outfits. I suppose they didn't have to do their own washing and cleaning. I think I prefer present day clothes that can just be flung in the washing machine when dirty !!

  6. I can't say that any of those outfits are suitable for the hot weather we are having today. I'm usually in capris and a t-shirt.

  7. I've been known to garden in a get-up similar to that of Valerie Finnis, er--minus the hat, but that's only because I get caught up in it when I head out into the backyard with my morning coffee.

  8. I think I might add a few dried flowers or seed heads to my sunhat. Very fetching.

  9. So funny.

Thanks for putting all of these lovely shots together. Artists are definitely something of the unusual.

I know that I look like a crazy to my neighbors. Gardening on the corner-lot retains little dignity.

    Thanks for the humor. :)

  10. Hi Julie, I'm sure you do it with style on your corner lot!
Perhaps we should all post photos of our gardening gear. Mine would not be a pretty sight, as it tends to be old clothes full of holes but then I don't have a corner lot to worry about!

Thanks for commenting on my blog, yes my husband is a gem, I am very lucking to have such support! You would laugh if you saw my daughter and I running around the property with our cameras trying to capture the butterflies in our lens, it is very funny! Happy Gardening! Mindy

  12. Hi Mindy, don't butterflies etc have a habit of flying off just as you're getting focused?!

  13. Aha, Beatrix Havergal! I like her style, that brogue and long-sock combination is marvellous.
