I thought I would share my photos of one of my favourite structures - the glasshouses in Glasgow's Botanic Gardens, known as the Kibble Palace.
The wrought iron structure was built for John Kibble for his house at Loch Long and was then moved to the Botanic Garden site in Glasgow and enlarged in the late 19th century. The structure underwent a major refurbishment from 2003 to 2006.
Today the Kibble Palace houses flora from the Temperate Zones, including Southern Africa, Australia, New Zealand, South America, North America, China, Japan, the Mediterranean, the Canaries and Madeira. The Main domed glasshouse has many tree ferns, palms and strelitzia regina or Bird of Paradise plant. Other parts house collections of orchids and tender plants..
It's well worth a visit not only to see the plants but to admire this beautiful structure. You can read more about the Kibble Palace renovation project at the following link:
