This is Giant Hogweed early in the season.
I know it's a weed and difficult to get rid of but if you didn't know any better wouldn't you think what wonderful leaves if you saw them in someone's garden?
The sculptural leaves are followed by large flowers spikes and seed heads on tall stems.
This is commonly known as Butterbur and grows along the river banks locally alongside the Giant Hogweed. An unusual little plant.
Yes, it is too bad that this plant could blind or give you 3rd degree burns. But it is gorgeous, dang it.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame that. It grows a lot along the rivers here and it's hard to remove. The nearest cultivated plant with good structural leaves is bears breeches (acanthus mollis) which I might try if I can find a space.
ReplyDeleteOr angelica.
