Camellias and Magnolias

Our camellia and magnolias are out at last. They take longer than most because of the shade cast  by surrounding buildings. And some times the frost gets to them turning the delicate petals brown.

The pink camellia is the only original shrub left in the garden. When we came to view the house in April 2005 the camellia was in full bloom then. Paul thinks that was one of the reasons we bought the house..... he may be right. Every year it is covered deep pink blooms.

  1. Lovely blooms. I don't have camelia or magnolia in my garden, so it is nice to enjoy yours. BTW...what is the tree or shrub you have featured behind your blog title?

  2. The tree is an embothrium also known as the Chilean Fire Bush, appropriately. I took this photo in Argyl on the west coast of Scotland. They have a lot more rain there which seems to suit the embothrium. There is one in a garden near us. I am trying to grow some from seed...I may have a long wait!
