Clouded with snow
The cold winds blow,
And shrill on leafless bough
The robin with its burning breast
Alone sings now.
The rayless sun,
Day's journey done,
Sheds its last ebbing light
On fields in leagues of beauty spread
Unearthly white.
Thick draws the dark,
And spark by spark,
The frost-fires kindle, and soon
Over that sea of frozen foam
Floats the white moon.
The cold winds blow,
And shrill on leafless bough
The robin with its burning breast
Alone sings now.
The rayless sun,
Day's journey done,
Sheds its last ebbing light
On fields in leagues of beauty spread
Unearthly white.
Thick draws the dark,
And spark by spark,
The frost-fires kindle, and soon
Over that sea of frozen foam
Floats the white moon.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteAre these photos from this year? You've had snow already?! I hope it hasn't stayed around too long or caused too much distruption for you all.
No, Liz, things are not always as they appear! The top two and the bottom two photos were last year. The middle three photos were taken a few days ago.... But i think the snow is heading our way...
ReplyDeleteOh wow, beautiful photos!! I'm coming up to Scotland next week. I hope we have some frosty snowy days and not too much rain and howling gales. I have an award for you over on my blog x
ReplyDeleteLorna, thank you very much for the award. I'll come and collect it...
ReplyDeletehello Janet, as usual the photos are awesome. I love that lake, but if i am there i might be tempted to try walking and drown, LOL. You know we dont have winter and snow is alien to us except in the fake snow inside 'Snow Parks'. But whose tracks are those, they are so big!
ReplyDeleteThese are roe deer prints. They live in the woods singly and in small groups. We see them fleetingly..
ReplyDeleteI must admit to excitement when the snow first falls even though everything tends to grind to a halt...
Lovely photographs, make me feel cold! I particularly like the drop of water which contains a world of upside down trees...
ReplyDeleteFrom one snow locale to another... nice images. I actually like the gardens when the snow hits because there is so much beauty to find. I got the question too on whether my photos were last year, (not) and even though it will be 51 degrees F tomorrow, the snow and ice did come this week. It will be gone but back again with freezing temps by Friday.
ReplyDeleteI have a sudden craving for hot cocoa... Lovely photos, Janet--they go beautifully with the poem, too.
ReplyDeleteYou've done it again Janet - produced beautiful photos and with an extra bonus of a lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteSara, I didn't even notice the upside/down reflection in the drop of water. Silly me! I could have used it for the upside/down meme.
ReplyDeleteDonna, I think you're right about getting out as soon as the snow has fallen and is covering twigs etc. A great photo opportunity.
Stacy. I don't know if you've come across Edward Lear before but I was brought up with his "nonsense" poems. I'm still looking for the opportunity to fit "The Jumblies" or "the Dong with the Luminous Nose" on the blog.
Thank you Elaine. Glad you enjoyed the poem.
Hi Janet - You really mustn't do this, you know. I watch your blog to see what the weather is like up East, and here was me thinking you'd just had a big snowfall, when all I have is rain...
ReplyDeleteI too thought the snow was with you, glad it's warmer for you though they say cold is on it's way, lovely photos, Frances
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are amazing! The scenes look so peaceful, I'm almost looking forward to snow this winter.
ReplyDeleteLovely words and photos Janet!
ReplyDeleteMr k we haven't had any snow at all in Montrose. i had to go into inland to get snow this year. but we live in hope...
ReplyDeleteFrances, I was just jealous of your snowy photos....
Bumble Lush winter without a little bit of the white stuff just wouldn't be winter.
Thank you, Christine.
Stunning photos Janet, you manage to make everything look so beautiful. No frost here yet, just lashings of rain bringing floods and gales to topple the trees.
ReplyDeleteSo so pretty.. a winter wonderland! So festive and lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. There's a little bit of snow on the hills here in South Wales but it has mainly been rain. The rivers are all very high and with more rain tonight it looks like there might be some flooding. Snow can be a pain but it does look so beautiful it would be nice to have a little bit for Christmas
ReplyDeleteI love it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas!
All deep and crisp and even, Janet. Wrap up warm!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem and pictures - made me shiver a little!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, Janet - I love that last one especially.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
